Bangkok: A Fusion of Modernity and Tradition as the vibrant capital of Thailand, Bangkok is a city that never fails to impress. While exploring the iconic Grand Palace and the magnificent Wat Arun, don't miss out on the lesser-known gems such as the Jim Thompson House, a traditional Thai-style house-turned-museum showcasing beautiful artifacts. For a taste of local life, explore the bustling Chatuchak Weekend Market or the charming neighborhood of Banglamphu, known for its street food and lively atmosphere. Be sure to try Som Tam a Papaya salad, Khao Mun Gai which is steamed chicken on rice or maybe be a little more adventurous and try some fried insects from one of the local street vendors! Kanchanaburi: Nature's serene retreat located west of Bangkok, Kanchanaburi is a tranquil province blessed with natural beauty and historical significance. Visit the infamous Death Bridge over the River Kwai and the JEATH War Museum to gain insights into the area's World War II history. Be sure to pack your tissues because while it's good to learn history, the evil of the human race can be felt while visiting this historical spot. Once there explore Erawan National Park, home to the stunning seven-tiered Erawan Waterfall, where you can swim in the emerald pools surrounded by lush greenery. For a unique experience, take a train ride along the Death Railway, offering breathtaking views of the picturesque countryside.

Chiang Mai: Temples and cultural delights nestled in the mountainous region of northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is a haven for culture enthusiasts. Here you can marvel at the majestic Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, perched atop a mountain, and explore the historic Old City, with its ancient temples, vibrant markets, and traditional architecture. To delve deeper into the local culture, visit the Baan Kang Wat artist village, where you can witness traditional crafts and interact with local artisans. If you want a really unique experience consider visiting in November for the famous Yi Peng Lantern Festival.

Hidden Places, Local Spots, and Food Delights: While exploring in these destinations, don't be afraid to venture off the beaten path to find pieces of history, stay at a BnB, taste foods unknown before and see sights unplanned. In Bangkok, explore the charming neighborhood of Ari, its known for its trendy cafes and local street food. In Kanchanaburi, you can visit the Sai Yok Noi Waterfall and the Lawa Cave, where you can witness stunning rock formations. In Chiang Mai, we suggest you take a trip to the peaceful Doi Inthanon National Park, home to Thailand's highest peak and stunning waterfalls. While traveling be sure to enjoy Thailand's diverse culinary scene that is a true delight for food lovers and nothing like what you know. Sample delectable street food at Yaowarat (Chinatown) in Bangkok, savor traditional Thai dishes at the local restaurants near the River Kwai in Kanchanaburi, and indulge in the famous Khao Soi curry noodles and traditional Northern Thai cuisine in Chiang Mai.

Cost Considerations: Thailand offers a wide range of options to suit different budgets. Accommodation options can vary from budget guesthouses to luxury hotels, with prices starting as low as $15 per night for basic accommodations and going up from there. We suggest saving on the place you are saving so you have more money to explore, after all how much time will you be inside your room? Street food and local restaurants offer affordable dining options, with meals costing around $3-7 per person and if you are sampling food, it's easy to share with friends. Public transportation, such as the Skytrain and tuk-tuks, are reasonably priced, while private taxis or hiring a driver for day trips can be more expensive but also more timely and sometimes more comfortable. Consider where you are going and what the goal of travel is, are you looking to see the sights while in transportation or are you just looking to get directly to your destination, only you can know the answer to this.

Traveling to Thailand and exploring the diverse landscapes and cultural riches of Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, and Chiang Mai or other part of this beautiful country is an experience of a lifetime. From the hidden gems to the local spots, tantalizing food, and fascinating history, this captivating country caters to all types of travelers. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or a food enthusiast, Thailand will leave you with unforgettable memories and a desire to return again and again. Hence, I leave in 17 days for my second trip to this country. It is also important to note that there are many counties surrounding it that are affordable to explore. In my upcoming trip, I will also be taking a trip to Vietnam, after all a round trip ticket was just over $100!
